September 2, 2007, Burrton, KS

The McCurry Angus Ranch, Andy, Mary, John & Emily McCurry presented a strong female offering for their first female production sale. A standing room only crowd and a beautiful day greeted the offering that was presented. Cattle sold into ten states and the demand was strong, especially for the spring show prospects and bred cows.

High selling lot was 18A for $15,000 going to Alex Rogen, Brandon, SD. One of 3 full sibs to sell, McCurry Blackcap 7028, a March 2007 daughter of SAV 8180 Traveler 004 was top pick.

Second high selling lot was Lot 1, McCurry Royal Lady 7027 for $11,500. A March daughter of 004, she is the daughter of the 2003 NJAS Grand Champion Owned Female raised by the McCurry’s. High bidder on this lot was Will Mayfield, Pulaski, TN.

Third high selling lot was Lot 18C, a full sib to Lot 18A (high selling heifer). Tess Steckline of Garden Plain, KS purchased McCurry Blackcap 7018, a February 2007 daughter of 004 out of a Saughatchee dam for $9500.00.

Tied for fourth high selling females were Lot 18B, McCurry Blackcap 7024 (full sister to lots 18A and 18C) going to Renee Deuth of Polo, Illinois and Lot 21 sold to Ashley Mitchell, Clinton, MO for $6500.00. This January 2007 heifer was the first offspring of the 2005 NJAS Grand Champion Bred & Owned Bull, Marands All In 4010, to sell.

Lot 12A, McCurry 004 Traveler 7033, was the pick of “buyer’s choice” on 3 full brothers born March 2007 offered. Wiehe Angus Ranch, Basehor, KS bought this son of SAV 8180 Traveler 004 for $6500.00 for one-half interest.

Lot 26, McCurry Bell 7007 was the designated lot for proceeds to help support the Kansas Angus Foundation fund. The Bob Smith Family, BSJ Farms of Marshall, TX generously donated $4,000 to the fund and offered the heifer back to sell through the auction.  Tanner Rayl of Hutchinson then bought the heifer.

Volume buyers were Jim & Todd Blissenbach of Pocahontas, AR with 10 females going their direction. Other top volume buyers were Limestone LLC, Perkins, OK, Ben Winsor, Grantville, KS, Hutchinson Community College, Hutchinson, KS, Tom Baalman, Viola, KS and Joe Taliaferro of Effingham, KS.

Col Jim Birdwell was the auctioneer and the Angus Hall of Fame managed the sale.
